Hi,
I am on my OPT visa at present and there are no dependents on my name. I am not sure as to what should I fill in the W-4 form. Can I claim to not fill the taxes? Or I am entitled to pay for the federal and state taxes? Is there any from I need to fill to claim or be eligible to get exemption from withholding?

My employer asked me to fill the following on the W-4 form- fields 1,2,4,7, on the page two.Kindly guide me as I feel my employer might want to cut the tax from my pay check unnecessarily.

Thanks.

As a non-resident alien student, you ARE liable for federal and state income taxes for income earned while in the U.S.

Since you have NO dependents, claim SINGLE with either ZERO or ONE allowance on the W-4. That is what the IRS allows for foreign nationals working in the U.S.
