I was suppose to claim my bi-weekly un-employment benefit this past Thursday Dec.10 2009. Today is December 12th a Saturday and I just realized this. I was sick with the flu all week after being released from the hospital on Nov. 25,2009. Will I be able to file on Monday December 14, 2009?

Depending on what state or country there may be a grace period as well.

Call up and speak with a live person and explain why you are filing late. You should be allowed to do this. There is usually a grace period. Have you tried using the automated system to call in your biweekly claim in the meantime? In Ohio you don't have to call exactly on the day that you are supposed to. You are given at least a 2 week grace period before your cliam is put into the inactive status. But you may be declined the unemployment benefits the entire week you were in the hospital as you were not able to look for employment. They consider hospitalization and imprisonment disqualifications for the entire week even if it was only one day in the hospital or in jail.

You should be fine but remember you will be disqualified for the one week's benefits. Just call first thing Monday and speak to a live person.

Well a few issues,

First when you file you certify that you were 'able" and willing to work and that you did job searches to try and find a job.

If you were sick and in the hospital, does not sound like you were able to work and looking for work?

But normally yes you merely file as soon as you noticed you forgot to file.

Are you filing by computer ( online)
