Hello,

My wife and I bought our first house this past May. We have our entertainment area in the basement and spend a lot of time there. We've noticed a noise coming from the wall every 30 seconds or so, and it sounds like a thud and then nothing, then again... Thoughts?

Maybe a mouse (or rat)? Those little critters sound loud for their size. I had that happen before and called a pest company to find out what is was.

Thanks rosemcs... For some reason, I don't believe that would be it though. The noise is fairly consistent and sometimes gets louder or quieter. It's a mystery... any other thoughts? It's an older house, so it could always just be the way the house is...

Here are a few more ideas:

-could it be the pipes contracting and expanding with heat and cold?

-If it doesn't sound like pipes at all and you can't get a plumber to come out at an affordable price to listen,

-get some neighbors and friends in there and maybe they have heard it in their own home before,

-otherwise, you could get a professional home inspector to come out for a reasonable price and not charge for a full inspection, and he could listen--maybe he will say,"oh yeah, that's...I have heard that in other homes around here".

Who wants to spend money, but if it is really bothersome, then maybe that may help give you a bit of peace.
