If 50g of water and 50g of sand each absorb 200J of solar energy what will be the change in tempurature?

You'll have to look up the specific heat capacity of water and the specific heat capacity of sand.

Specific heat capacity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_heat_capacity)

The specific heat capacity of water is approximately 4.1813 J/g K

The specific heat capacity of sand is approximately 0.835 J/g K

You know the number of Joules, and the number of grams, using the heat capacity and its definition, you can easily calculate the temperature change in Kelvins (Celsius since it's a delta-T).

Sorry, I thought the math tags would work inside a rating.

\delta{T} = m\frac{Energy_available}{Specific_heat}

\Delta{Temp} = \frac{Energy_{available}}{Mass*Specific_{heat}}

From now on, I will preview all of my math tag stuff.
