This is how I remember this kind of thing: our whole system of counting years comes from when Jesus was born: A.D. stands for Anno Domini, that is, the Year of Our Lord, meaning the Lord Jesus. So, for example, 2009 A.D. is about 2,009 years after Jesus was born. Now, Jesus was born close to the beginning of the Roman Empire, during the reign of the first emperor, Caesar Augustus. And, just like August comes right after July, Caesar Augustus comes right after Julius Caesar (July is named after Julius and August is named after Augustus, but it's just a coincidence that the months come right after each other). So Julius Caesar lived a generation before Augustus (Augustus was his adopted son), which means that he lived a generation before Jesus was born, that it about a generation Before Christ, or B.C. For the exact years, you could check Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org), but it's best to check Wikipedia against another source, because anyone can change what Wikipedia says.
