I have septic sump holding tank in my basement. The pump pushes the sewage up & out to the street line.
The tank is vented outside. The vent pipe goes up the along the outside wall about 15 ft.
High. The roof line is well above this pipe.
I am getting sewage odour in my basement from the tank.
Does the vent pipe have to clear the roof line?
Why am I getting obours?

Hi Brain,
Unlike other house vents that just pull air in to vent the drainage system a pit vent both pulls air in when it's pumping sewage out but also expels sewer gas outas the fixtures drain into the pit. That's why it's dedicated and separate .
If you have odor from the tank the seal nay be faulty allowing sewer gas to escape. Also the pit vent could be blocked allowing pressure to build in the pit as the fixtures drain. I would check both the lid seal and the pit vent. Good luck and tell me what you find. Tom
