Every time my little zu's are groomed they cry and run and sit quickly for days afterward. Can anyone tell me why?

Dogs are not able to empty the anal glands entirely. If they become too full they are uncomfortable. That's why dogs scoot along on their rears, trying to release the impacted material.

Perhaps the groomer is being too rough emptying their glands.
I would ask them not to do it any more.

If your dog is on the correct diet their glands should empty on their own.
You can empty them yourself but I personally get my vet to do it. I wouldn't trust many groomers to do so.

I would try to find out what's going on at the groomers.:(
My dogs are both fine when they are done grooming and just happy to be done with it.
If they see her truck coming down the street, they will try to be invisible:eek:, but that's before not after.

I have to agree with Shazzy on this one. It sounds like your groomer isn't doing a good job of emptying the anal glands. Personally, this shouldn't have to be done very often, so emptying them when they don't need it can hurt the dog.

I think it's nice that they offer this service but I'd ask them to stop doing it.

Talk to your vet and find out if your dogs have a problem with impacted anal glands.

My lab does have a problem with this and I do empty the glands myself, at home, with a mask, and gloves, and a lot of paper towels, then beer, after washing my hands.

It's nasty business.

Just Dahlia agrees: you forgot to mention safety goggles!

And the hazmat suit. ;)

Hahaha sounds like my mom... imagine doing a Great Danes glands when they are impacted...
Oh and she has a pine lined bathroom... oh so fun to clean up *retches*

Yeah no thanks, if I had a dog, I'd pay someone else to do this business for me. (someone who was careful)

It's better then having his anal glands release in your car, that has velour seats. Nasty. No matter how many times I cleaned the damn thing you could still smell it. Even febreeze didn't help, it just smelled like someone's rotting corpse in a field of flowers.

Ouch, that is nasty... even worse when you think the smell is gone and then you get a hot day!

What's even worse is (this was mega years ago) your dog bringing up a half digested skunk in the back seat. While you had a whole package of Kentucky Fried Chicken in the front.
