Hi,
After marriage, my wife came with me in Feb.2006.We were in Pennsylvania till July and then we relocated to Washington for new assignment. Should I file for ITIN for my wife now or wait till I get my W4 form in Jan-Feb 2007 and apply for ITIN alongwith tax returns.

What are the documents I need to send alongwith filled in W7 form.

Does living in two states(PA & WA) in a financial year require any additional information to be provided.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Sid

Sid:

Living in two states makes no difference.

There are a number of documents that can be provided, but the easiest one to send is a notarized photocopy of her passport.

You MUST wait until you file your tax return to send in the W-7 to apply for the ITIN unless you can show the IRS that you have a need for it earlier.
