I've inherited a daughter in law through marriage, she is my husbands son's wife from another marriage. She has been a thorn in the flesh since our marriage. My husband & I had a son before her & her husband had theirs & that started the feud. She acts like a spoiled child, bad mouthing everyone & anyone. I have tried to get along with her just to keep peace but find it impossible to be around her & listen to her & her mother bad mouth her own family members. She has a weight problem & she's very jealous & controlling needing to be the center of attention all the time. I've decided the best way to distance myself from her is to not be around her period. This is sad for my son who is a yr older than his nephew & he enjoys being around his niece & nephews on holidays. I hate phony people & she is a back stabber who I don't trust. For my huband & child's sake I would like to be able to have a platonic relationship with her & her family.

You already know what you have to do.

Keep your distance and see her only when you have to. Your son may not get to see her child as much, but I am sure he will have lots of other friends.

She's only a thorn in your side if you allow her to be. Avoid seeing her, and when you do completely ignore anything she says that offends you.

She's toxic. Is it worth your emotional and mental health to hang around this person?
