I am doing a paper for my english class on defending an issue. I am defending the fact that banning pit bulls is not the answer, that we must punish those that are creating monsters out of these loving gentle and loyal animals. However I have not been able to find statistics on how many cities in the us has put bans or restrictions on these dogs

Please help

Have you Googled for information and statistics? Have you gone to the bricks-and-mortar library (reference department, where they have this kind of information)? I've Googled and found a lot.

Yess I have googled for hours now but I'm not finding actual numbers. I have tried many different combinations of words but I only find a few cities here and there and a lot of info on banning breeds in general but not specifically what I'm looking for.

I immediately Googled "statistics on cities that ban pit bulls" and got facts and figures. (The keyword"statistics" has to be in your search if you want numbers. Over 250 U.S. cities have such a ban.) Here's one site:

Legislating Dangerous Dogs - DogsBite.org (http://www.dogsbite.org/legislating-dogs.htm)

P.S. Google is fantastic as long as you plug in the important keywords: statistics, cities, ban, pit bulls

And with that said, there are 1000's of small cities also, ( like Sparta TN) that I doubt makes any list ( small town of a few thousand people)

There is no requirement to register a city with this law, so no list would most likely be complete

Thanks so much, I guess I just need to choose the words I use when searching

That's the whole secret of keyword searching -- choose the best keywords and try different combinations of the best keywords. "statistics of cities that ban pit bulls" will have a different outcome from "ban pit bulls in cities statistics." If you're not coming up with much, think of synonyms of some of the keywords ("towns" instead of "cities" and "laws against" instead of "ban") and try those combinations. (P.S. I'm a librarian. Googling is my life.)
