Area originally had plywood ceiling as a car port. Many years ago, converted to two rooms. Now, sheet rock added in center with octagonal "tray" which is actually the original ceiling and dropped area around perimeter. This is where 4" ic/non-ic recessed cans are installed. The top of the cans touch the original plywood ceiling. I am told this is safe. There is plenty of clearance on both sides 8+ inches or so, however I have concern from heat rising to the ceiling. Seems to me, the ceiling should have been cut out to the crawl space and expose to the insulation to allow for ventilation. Comments?
