I am the legal father of a 9 year old boy. I have seen this child twice since he was 6 months old. We live several hundred miles apart and I have had no contact with his mother or him since he was 2. I pay child support and am considering relinquishing my parental rights. Will I still have to pay child support?

There is a "sticky" at the top of the Family Law forum which addresses signing away parental rights; here is a link to it:

It is difficult to sign away your rights and in most cases, a judge will not allow it unless there is another party willing to adopt.
If I can ask, why have you not been involved in your son's life? Why haven't you fought to see him more often?

Tammysk,
