The best way you can do this without really ruining your hair is to gradually take it through stages dying it every 4-6 weeks which means you woud have to put up with it copper colour for a while.best going to hairdresser to do this

No. It won't work. You could try to *bleach* it, but that's not likely to work very well either (it'll go majorly brassy -- and you won't be able to tone out the yellow). There are lots of color removers that are not very damaging: ColorFix, Color Oops, Igora Phantom, etc. Color Zap, Effasol, and others are sold as color removers. They are bleaches (more damaging).

After using the color remover, don't expect the color of your hair to be pleasing -- it won't be. It may have to be bleached after using the color remover. In this case, you are bleaching the remaining natural pigment still in the hair and not the artificial pigment (that doesn't bleach very well).

racheal85 is dead wrong. If you do it gradually, you'll destroy the hair. Hair doesn't heal and doing it gradually means it'll go through many color treatments -- all of which will damage the hair. Damage to the hair is cumulative.
