iTunes is free. The last countless of times I've downloaded it, they haven't charged me.
You download iTunes from their website. Insert the cd you want to transfer to itunes. Either iTunes will ask you if you want to transfer the songs to your library or a small window will pop up and you just click on transfer to iTunes.
I can't check myself for you.
Because my regular computer broke down and I'm using another computer that doesn't have iTunes ^^
Don't know if I helped, but no one else answered so I wanted to help.
I doubt iTunes costs anything.

You need to have the music on your computer. Make sure the songs are in itunes (which is free to download). Connect yout iPod to the computer with the usb cord that came with it. Sync the iPod to itunes and the songs will be added automatically.
Keep in mind; if you connect your iPod to one computer and then try to connect it to a different computer later you risk losing everything on it. If you have more than one computer in your house, just always connect your iPod to the same computer.
Also, if you haven't been connecting it to a computer on a regular basis then it probably has several upgrades that will install automatically.
