I was told by my doctor to move to a warmer climate for health reasons. I left my job and moved south and applied for unemployment insurance. I am ready willing and able to work, and I worked up until the day I left. My doctor stated in a medical form required by UI that my hand was bent and unable to use it and my ankles were swollen and I would not be able to stand for long periods and that I can never work again. None of this is true. I was hoping to collect unemployment until I found a job in my new state. According to the doctor, (which his secretary , office manager and I, via email, tried to make him understand) I cannot collect any supplement income until I find work, rendering me permanently disabled, which is not true. I am left without any source of income to survive. Finding a job at this time is extremely difficult, although I am actively seeking employment. In speaking to someone about this, they suggested I get a lawyer and sue this doctor because he has now put me in a very bad situation financially.

You quit your job and now cannot collect unemployment. You did not quit for an unsafe working condition, etc. It doesn't matter what the doctor wrote on your note. You quit the job and moved elsewhere. Now had you been laid off your job or your company went under you could collect unemployment.

Try suing this guy would be a long, drawn out affair and the attorney would definitely want paid up front for the lawsuit so I wouldn't recommend you sue the doctor. It could take years to come to any sort of conclusion. Also, since you went out of state you would have to sue him in the state he is in - not the state you are presently in.

Basically you're up against a brick wall here.

You could not have collected unemployment anyway because you quit you job, you did not get fired, you quit because of medical conditions you had.

Even if the doctor had just said what you thought he said, I can't see any chance of you getting unemployment anyway.
