I have an interesting situation. I have replaced the ceiling fan in a bedroom and want to use a double switch to control the fan and light. The single switch that I am replacing only controlled the light. The preexisting wiring has 7 wires in the box. A 12/2 and a 12/3 - 2 blacks, 2 whites, 1 red and 2 grounds. I have been trying to get the fan and light to work independently. The closest I have gotten is

Switch wiring
Black 1 to hot,
Red to switch 1, (light)
Black 2 to switch 2, (fan)
Whites wirenutted (not attached to switch)
Grounds to ground

Fan Wiring
Black to black1 & black2
White to white1 & white2
Blue to red
Ground to ground

Unfortunately this works perfectly, EXCEPT, the black2 on switch 2 also controls the outlet that is apparently drawing power from the switch.

I would like the outlet to stay on and NOT be associated with the switch and have the light and fan working independently.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, but from you description is is not possible to tell whether the power is coming from the outlet to the switch and then to the
Light or from the light to the switch and then the outlet. Remove outlet and tell us how many wires and how they are connected. How many wires (cables) in the switch box and how many wires in the ceiling box?

When you say the box has 7 wires, you are including grounds?
