He has the same rights that you do. Its not just YOUR baby its HIS too. Have you been to court for custody and child support yet ?

You really need to go to court to legally establish custody and child support. He is the father of the child therefore it is his child as well not just yours so please don't be like the many others that forgot that they didn't make the baby themselves. The sooner you get into court the better. Do you have proof of the domestic violence? If so, he might only be awarded supervised visitation until he can prove himself to the court but you need proof.

That he refused contact in the past matters little. He is the father and if he takes you to court he will get some access to the child.

Refusal to give out your location may be construed as parental kidnapping.

What you need to do is contact a solicitor specializing in Family Law. Go to court to establish full physical custody. Ask that any visitation granted be supervised because of his history of violence.

P.S. I'm assuming you are in the UK because of your use of the term solicitor. But its really important, especially with questions of law to indicate a general location either in your profile or your post.
