The material appears to be some kind of plastic/vinyl tubing. I have never seen this, and I noticed the plumber is using it in my home. Is it really okay?

Sounds like it is the watts or wirsbro type pf PEX tubing and it something that plumber's are using quite abit nowadays. This stuff is considered to be quite reliable, safe, and also very easy to install... hopefully saving you some money on an installation that could have been all copper pipe and fittings... expensive stuff and laborious to install, too.

Anyway, if he is a licensed plumber and he is using it I wouldn't worry at all. Will the work he is installing be inspected? If so, then you definitely have no need to worry... inspector will let him know if his workmanship or materials are below standard... ;)

Thank you. I live in a very rural area, and plumbers/electricians/etc do not need to be licensed (in NY State, the cities have their own requirements, but nothing statewide).

I don't see where to rate, but would rate your response as very prompt and knowledgeable. (I don't think what he's doing requires an inspection.)
