First, its important to realize that your VCR is analog and it appears that your TV/DVD is digital. This means that you may have difficulty.

First, you need to find out if you have an analog output from the DVR or the TV. It should be an RCA jack and it will probably be yellow. Inputs will be the same color so make sure you're looking at outputs. If you do have an output connector, connect that to the video input (yellow RCA jack) on the VCR. It will probably be close to a pair of Red and White RCA jacks that are used for audio. White is for the left channel, Red is for the right. From your home sound system, locate an auxiliary output or some other reasonable output and connect that to the VCR's audio inputs.

It's also possible that there is an RF output somewhere (not on the TV, if the 8300 HD is also a receiver, it may be there). If you have that, you can connect that to the VCR using a cable with a pair of F-connectors. Somehow, I doubt that will be there, however.

You should be able to record, though don't expect the recording to be in High Definition. The VCR is only capable of handling a 480i signal, so that's the highest definition possible.
