I Need help writing a poem.

I wrote the first few lines

The Topic.

God is Good to me

I am lucky to be free
As I admire the blue sky, through the tree

Poetry is not really my area, but I feel that to write a good poem, you have to have something to say. Poetry is not about just writing stuff that rhymes, it's about expressing a strong idea in the most perfectly chosen words you can find.

Try writing your basic idea first, before you even think about rhyme or rhythm. Be as honest as you can, even though it can be tough exposing yourself on paper like that. Then start polishing it, and be prepared to cut out a lot of the stuff you like if it doesn't contribute to what you need to say.
