I attempted to file bankruptcy some years ago. I thought I never went completely through with it. How can I find out information about this? I am trying to buy a house and consolidate some debt, and a bankruptcy appeared.

The question here is really, Did you file or did you not file? If you retained an attorney and completed an arduous amount of paperwork and the case got filed, then yes, you filed for bankruptcy. If you simply met with an attorney or some legal service and discussed it, then you didn't file. There's a chance that maybe you filed and the case was dismissed before ever receiving a discharge order. Bankruptcy is a federal process and it is also a matter of public record. Check with your local courthouse or you can go online to a number of sites where you can check public records filed in your name. If a bankruptcy was in fact filed within the past 10 years, then the public records should show you. If the records in fact show that bankruptcy was not filed, then you need to address the concern with the credit bureau that's showing it. Hope this helps you!
