I plug in a music cd, it won't play. When I try to play a CD, a short message stating, "Insert disk in drive F:". The operating "go" light comes on when I physically put a CD in and close the drive door, however. Drivers have been updated. I'm lost and want to do music!! Can anyone help!

Have you tried more than 1 music cd?

Make sure disc was not scratched or smudged

Any new software or hardware changes since last worked?

When last time worked?

Does it read other types of discs, like data disks?

I have tried many diff types of cd's. Thank you for your response by the way.

I am not the original owner of this computer, but have had it for a few months. I can play music from the computer directly, but not a music cd, but even though the screen in media player shows it playing, there's no sound. I'm thinking maybe the CD ROM drive is just belly up.

First thing to check would be your volume settings
-double click the speaker next to your clock
-make sure nothing is muted except for mic and that the volume levels are all up (volume, wave and CD for sure)
-also check on the media player itself to make sure not muted

Have you tried to play any video or movie cd's to see if you can get volume?

Start there and will see if can get this working, just sounds like a setting somewhere
