In NY If I am a salaried employee and I miss work can my pay be deducted? I just moved from CA where that was not legal but the state of NY seems to not have laws in place that protect their employees like CA does.

If you are a salaried employee, then yes, your pay can be docked if you miss a WHOLE day. However, you can't be docked for a partial day.
And I doubt if CA is any different. You would have to show me the statute that requires an employer to pay when the employee is not there. Federal laws state that an employee has to be paid when they show up for work, but not if they don't show.
