I was in an auto/pedestrian accident 4 years ago. After many rounds of depositions, settlement attempts, and arbitration, I have recently found out that I will have to go to trial as a defendant in this case.

I was using a company vehicle on company time so my lawyer was hired by the company.

My question is this... I have recently started a new job and I was told that this trial will take a minimum of 2 weeks in Superior court. How do I go about getting time off from my new employer without getting fired? Timing of all this was extremely poor.

You don't have to be there for the entire 2 weeks. You should only be asked to appear on the day your testimony is needed.

And there is no way to be sure you new company will not fire you, a lot will depend on the position, and how the company feels about this type of thing.

Also honestly you need your own attorney, not just a company one, the company attorney is going to look after the interest of the company. Their attorney only cares about the company not having to pay.
