View Full Version : Opinions on brochure

I had an invitation to my local Chamber of Commerce networking event tonight. So I had to rush to revise my brochure. But I did want to get some feedback on it. You can find the brochure (as a PDF) here:
https://rcpt.yousendit.com/777506268/736dddd2dbcc66cd3eed1f573be39558 (https://rcpt.yousendit.com/777486188/39575600b0c78cff6206255e4f3f8889)

Please note, the one I scanned was an earlier draft and certain things were corrected. Like the S being cut off from the logo on the front. Note also that this was printed on preprinted and scored trifold stock. So the brown and tan elements are actually preprinted. Also the reason for the rotated text is that this paper has a punchout rolodex card. So that text was rotated to fit on the card.

Finally, sorry for the orientation of the scan. You should be able to rotate it within the Acrobat reader.

Any and all comments (within the rules of this site ;) ) are welcome.

Just out of curiosity, did you buy the brochure paper from Paper Direct?

Right off the bat, I see three grammar-type mistakes: "common place" should be one word, there should be a comma after "years," and "so has our services" should be "so have our services." Should I keep reading?

I'll continue to roll along...

On the third side of text that lists your credentials, you use some form of the word "award" three times -- two too many. Synonyms maybe?

"desktop publishing, training and consulting services" should have a comma after "training," or do you offer "training services"? If you do, add an "and" after "publishing [comma]."

Hmm, When I typed commonplace as one word, Publisher didn't like it, that's why I made it separate.

But yes keep reading. This was just a test of the waters to see if a local networking event would generate any business. I really just dashed this together in a couple of hours. But I do want to get it correct for future events or opportunities.

I'm also looking for comments on the content, design, etc.

Yep, that's Paper Direct. The only thing is, when I run out of those papers I'm not sure I can get more. I didn't see them currently on their website.

OK, how about:

Is an award winning Access developer. He has earned Microsoft's MVP designation annually since 2007

What's very good about the brochure is the mix of text and graphics. In general, it's very clear and well-stated.

As I was reading it the first time, I was wondering if there is a way to highlight things, say with headings or bolded words, but that might make the brochure look too amateurish. The graphics seem to add enough of a break in the blocks of text.

Much better!

"award-winning" should be hyphenated - compound adjective.

Trust me, it's one word. I'm a Mensa member and am smarter than Publisher.

I did my brochure on one of their designs (Acropolis) too.:D Do they have an 800 number to call? (I haven't dealt with them personally.)

Brochures, Stationery, Invitations and Award Certificates - PaperDirect (http://www.paperdirect.com)

They do have a toll free #.

BTW, I changed the link to the file. I just realized it had address and phone number info so I redacted them. Don't mind you having that info. But I didn't want it open to anyone who looks.

I just checked their Web site and don't see that brochure design either. I was amazed at all the designs that have been added since I purchased Acropolis!

Their 800 # is 1-800-A-PAPERS. (I hate it when a company uses words and doesn't include the matching keypad numbers.)

Yeah me too.

I really like the paper I'm using. My logo fits so nicely in that space on the front panel. As you may have gathered, I like to make use of my surname.

I'd call them. Do you know the name of your design? (It's probably on the box.) They may have a closetful they want to get rid of. Can you estimate how many you would want to have available?

I know where to find you if I need you. :) And I thought you were pretty brave publicizing that info.

(Btw, I cataloged your book into our collection at the public library where I work. And on a sad note, I found out Sunday evening that IQGuru passed away on Memorial Day this year -- appropriate day in that he was a career Navy man.)
