For the last week I have had a niggling pain in the side of the foot, starting below the ankle and stretching under the foot. It is really painful to walk. Can not get a doctors appointment till next week. What do you think is causing the pain, how long will it last, what can I do or take to stop it hurting.

You may have pulled a ligament in your foot from overuse or just something random. Perhaps it just needs a rest, try elevation, ice, and rest the foot to see what happens.

The only foot problem I'm really familiar with is plantar fasciitis (as I am currently debilitated with it). And it could be that, but it's hard to say. I tape my foot to help myself walk, try googling it and sit down with some tape if you think it'll help. Here's a link: Plantar fasciitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantar_fasciitis)

Feel better soon!

Was it sport related. Lookup peroneus longus injury...
