How to restart kenmore dishwasher 587.16074201 lights flashing on and off stuck on 6 hr del;ay

I have 587.15072201 with the same symptoms this morning. I took off the control panel, cleaned the contacts and still no go. I ended up trying the "button" reset method of alternating the high temp and air dry buttons 4 or 5 times. That enabled me to get to a "normal" wash mode but it quit after about 2 minutes. I then played with the wires that go to the handle for the safety switch. Cleaned the contacts and tightened them up.

We are now working correctly - I am not sure if the high temp and the air dry solved the problem and the door was simply not latched tightly or if it was the handle safety wires. BUT - those in combination has the washer working properly again.

Have Kenmore dishwasher Model 587.16074201. Purchased in 2002. Yesterday, the dishwasher control panel caught fire and smoke and sparks filled the kitchen. Turned off circuit breaker and used fire exting. Put our fire. Was this model ever recalled for for that problem. Thankfully I was home. Still shaking.
