Hi all,

My 17 year old R22 system died (compressor motor opened up) and I am installing a new 16.5 seer R410a system. I am doing all the mechanical and electrical work which I am very comfortable with but leaving the line connections/pressures to an expert to do. My question is, can a 90 degree elbow be placed on the large line coming out of the outdoor compressor unit or do the lines have to stay relatively straight? The new compressor is twice the size of the old unit and I only have about 4-6 inches of clearence between the wall and the copper tubing coming out of the compressor and I do not think the tubing will make that radius bend.

Thanks for the advice!!

Terry

Use a long-radius elbow & all will be well.

Log radius elbows are available at your local HVAC supply place. They are specified by OD. i.e. A 7/8" long sweep elbow would fit 3/4 plumbing tubing.
