I belong to a 501c3 group. We teach gun safety to kids. We have 5 officers and the president is trying to shut us down. 3 of the officers don't agree and 1 dropped out of our group and 3/4 of our group or a little more wants to keep going. We resend him as President but he says his name is on the 501c3 paper work and has to shut us down because he owns us and that's the only way to get his name off the papers. Thank you for your time.

Hello Cole1965 - it seems that there are two issues here:
1. The Pres is concerned that his name is "on the paperwork," and the only way to get his name removed is to shut the organization down. That's incorrect. First - please clarify what "paperwork" he is referring to. If his name is on the original charter (which as a 501c3 would have been filed with the state), then the organization can modify the charter, by following the procedures specific for your state and consistent with your by-laws.
2. As a 501c3 charitabe organization, the assets are not "owned" by any individual, so your Pres is incorrect on that point as well. All assets of the organization are controlled by the board, not any individual. In fact, it would be illegal for him to claim any assets from the charity.
