Hi. I'm new to all this so I hope this would be the correct category. I lived at my apartment for THREE years and have never been behind on my rent; however I left my job to start a on-line business with a friend and it fell through and now I'm a month and a half behind. I'll be starting a new job soon and should be expecting some checks in the mail for previous job. He told me to let him know when. How do I communicate giving him chunks at a time until I'm paid up? I never had to do this before. Thanks a bunch for your help.

Give him a written payment proposal specifying how much you'll pay and on what dates. Keep a copy for yourself. If he agrees to it, make sure you stick to it like glue. If he doesn't, let him propose an alternative and negotiate.

First, since you aren't anywhere close to court yet, your's was not the best choice of forum. I moved this to the Real Estate Law forum.
First, you thank him for being nice and reasonable about your late rent. Tell him that, as soon as you receive some money you will pay it towards the arrears. Tell him that, as soon as you receive confirmation about when you will recevie money you will keep him informed.

Yes, esp since most landlords would not be doing this, and in most cases you would have been evicted long ago.
So I agree really thank them, and let them know exactly what you got coming and set up a plan on what they will get then.
