It could be a number of things. Some benign, and the vet could just suggest keeping an eye on it. If it suddenly appeared, it could be a fast growing cancer. If it has suddenly appeared, I would get him to the vet. If it is a problem needing immediate attention, you would never forgive yourself for waiting. If it is nothing much, still money well spent to be sure.

Exactly how large? Does your vet still give vaccinations in the back of the neck? I would say get to the vet. That is not a normal area for a Lipoma. Others are worse and need to be removed.

Steph1988, how did it work out for your rottwiler? I'm concerned because I have a boxer and he's having the same problem. Yesterday I noticed a lump on his stomach and he's also got one on his leg. Somebody told me this type of dog, even rotwilers are known for tumors. Please let me know how things went.

It might be a tumor. Is it moderately hard? Or is it more of a fleshy bump?

It's just like a marble inside the skin and you can move it around.

Any sort of growth should be checked by a veterinarian as soon as possible. It might simply be a "skin tag", but has the potential to be a more serious tumor. By what you describe, it very well could be a tumor. Does it hurt your dog if you touch it? That is also characteristic of a tumor.

A website that might interest you (http://www.seefido.com/canine-dog-health/html/dog_cancer_tumors.htm). =]

Thanks for that website. I just went in on it and it's great help. The lump doesn't hurt the dog because I've moved it around and he doesn't even move.
