My girlfriend and I have together for 4 years and are ready to start trying to get pregnant. We live in Florida, where there are NO gay rights what-so-ever... no legal marriage, no civil unions, nothing. I'm curious to know if/when we do get pregnant and have a child, what's the best way to go about giving her legal rights to the child as well? Can she adopt the child I carry so that we are both the parents? Is there another way that is easier/full-proof?

You need to get a lawyer for this.

Some states do NOT allow a same sex partner to adopt. Heck, MOST states do not allow a non-married couple to have a step-parent adoption.

You need to consult with a family law attorney to find out what your best options are.

Im going to say it... the only likely way anything will legally be done here is if you move out of Florida.

The laws here are archaic and discriminatory. Unless you find yourself a team of civil rights lawyers and get the laws changed, the non-biological parent won't have rights granted in FL.

I think the closest you will be able to come is to have her declared a legal guardian. Best of luck and sorry for our state's dumb laws.
