Hello,
I have a 1998 chevrolet p/u, silverado 1500, 1/2 ton, 2wd, 8 cy, 5.0 engine.
It was working fine, I parked and when I tryied to start it again it went "click" but did not start anymore.
The battery is fully charged, and there is also 12v at the starter wire. I was told by AAA the problem was the starter. I installed a new starter but still won't start. I replaced the starter relay and checked the fuse box under the hood. I can only hear "click" "click" but it won't start. Power windows work, power locks work, everything else seems to be working. The new starter was tested again at Autozone and by itself works fine.
I jump wired the two starter connectors while somebody else turns the ignition on but it won't start.
I will appreciate any advise before taking it to a mechanic so I can have an idea of what the problem can be and get an estimate of how much would it cost to fix it.
Thank you.

You may have corrosion at the battery terminals. Too many times, I've seen this same thing: 12 volts will reach the starter but insufficiant amperage to actually crank it.

Pull the positive terminal off and gently peel back the red cover. If there is extensive green corrosion or the terminal eye is nearly gone, replace that cable or just the end (if you can cut it back and still have enough to reach).

Both ends of both cables need to be clean and free of corrosion for all the batteries amperage to reach the starter and crank the engine.

Remember, 12 volts can travel down the thinnest of wires, but thin or corroded wires cannot deliver adequate amperage.
