My wife and I closed on our house last week on Thursday. This morning while my wife was taking a shower in the master bathroom, within about 30 seconds of turning it on loss the pressure of the hot water. She turned off both sides and called me and then turned the hot water on again. It went on only to then turn off a few seconds later.

We have city, not well water. Is this is a leak or did something break? I went downstairs after this occurred and did not see any water appear to be leaking from the ceiling and around 40 minutes after this incident my wife also looked at the ceiling where water would leak down and it was dry.

Shortly before she turned her shower on I flushed a toilet on the ground floor and thought it was just a brief drop in water pressure. Any ideas what this could be? Any help would be great, thank you.

It feels like loss of pressure but its actually more likely loss of volume. Debris caught in the mixing valve or inlet will drop the volume so the water comes out much slower. One handle or two on the shower valve, brand if known will help.

We have two handles that spin for hot and cold.

Shut of the supply line or the main if there is not supply valve close. Open both hot and cold to drop any pressure. Now remove the handle and then the nut on the stem, the stem can now be unscrewed and we will find a stem and washer or a cartridge, you with me so far?

Actually I am at work right now and I'll have to look at this when I get home. I just wanted to know if I actually had a leak that would come through the downstairs ceiling.

It couldn't be a leak if we could turn it back on again right?

Chances of this problems being a leak are very, very small. It's a reduction in water volume through a small orifice rather than a leaking pipe. See you tonight, we are open 24/7
