I am on very limited disablity and I need new glasses which I can not afford. I have contacted the Lions Club but they will only help with single vision plain glasses. I need bifocals and darking lens. So I was wondering if there was any place in Maine that could help me.

Also, lenscrafters, Binyon's, America's Best, basically any retail glasses store have great offers where you can get affordable glasses.
Most places that are helping you out in such a way won't pay for transitions ("darking lens") as its not a medically necessary option.
Also, at most pharmacies/vision clinics they sell stick on bifocals. You could inquire about these.
You could contact churches and charities in your area.
Do you qualify for state assistance?
You could also take the offer you were handed, and go to a retailer and get the basic plastic lined bifocals. They're usually not too expensive if you get the basic ones.
