I needed to snake the main kitchen sink line because of it being clogged. I replaced a flexible J-bend because the top seemed to be folded over causing the connection to leak.

I put on a new flexible j-bend, and used the plastic washer coming from the sink with out trouble. Now, it said to use the plastic washer with the tapered end facing down, on both ends which I did. It just kept slipping off when I tried to tighten the nut on the shorter one that connects to the stub out on the wall.

There is a 90 degree plastic pipe with a ferrule coming out of the stub out in the wall.. do I still need to use the plastic washer or does the ferrule at the end of the pipe act as a washer and stop it from leaking.?

Can you take a picture and attach to your post? What material is this "ferule" made of. Is it simply another gasket? Regards, Tom

The extension tube is coming out of the stub in in the wall. The extension tube is plastic, and at the bottom has a "knob" that fits into the j-bend and the nut fits over this hopefully making a tight fitting.

I am a 74 yr old handywomen, and appreciate your help. I took a picture, but not sure how to send it to you?

Under the window where I composed my answer, I am not able to find the section called Additional Options so I can get to the attachment button to embed my picture.
