I have just got fitted a Halogen 500w Floodlight outside. It is connected to a ordinary 13amp plug. The problem is it keeps blowing the halogen bulbs. I keep replacing them and they last for about a week then I have to replace the blub again. Can you please help. I'm considering buying another floodlight. jackiebeck3:(

Are the bulbs the little tubes about 3 or 4" long?

They are 118mm 500 watt 240v linear bulbs. I've just changed the bulb this morning and it is working again. But it will only last for about a week.

Are you handling or touching these bulbs while installing? You can not touch them with bare fingers. The oil in you skin will shorten bulb life. Use a paper towel or tissue.

Confirm what the supply voltage is and confirm what the voltage rating of the lamp is.
Both need to match.
If this is a double ended lamp, contacts at both ends of a tube, often times the contacts of the sockets get corroded, and cause the lamp to fail.
If the voltages match, you may be better off replacing the fixture to eliminate the socket issue.
