Hello,

My name is Jodie I am a Canadian citizen and I am wanting to move to Greece with a Greek citizen, but not wanting to get married right away. Of course wanted to see if living there is something I can deal with. I know I am able to stay up to three months. I am wanting to know how long I could stay there without being married and then once married what I would have to do. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

How about trying out the first 3 months, then if you like apply for a working holiday VISA.

Best place to get info is at a Greek Embassy.

First off, are you also of Greek descent? If so, the process is very simple to obtain dual citizenship. Otherwise, it's a lot more difficult. Im an American citizen and planning a move to Thessaloniki, Greece this January. My boyfriend lives there and Im moving to be with him. We are also planning to get married, but not right away. Since Im of Greek descent I can become a citizen without having to marry. But even then, there is a lot of red tape. Even applying for the marriage license is a big ordeal. I think your best best bet is to obtain a Visa before you go there. It will be very difficult to get one once you are there. If your boyfriend knows someone in the government, they can easily get you a residency permit. But that takes knowing and greasing the right people. However, Greece isn't like the US or Canada and many things are done this way. No worries, they love Canadians though. If you happen to be Greek and need some help let me know. Ive been going back and forth with the consulates for 2 months and Im pretty much an expert by now. Good luck!
