Hello all,

I bought this house few months a ago. This home is almost 11 years old so there are no squeaks through out the flooring except on the second floor between the dividing wall of two bedrooms. What I have noticed is that the floor squeaks close to the dividing wall on both sides. The wooden plank goes under the wall and is in both rooms. If I walk on the floor near the wall, at some places I can actually see the floor moving. (Itried it will carpet pulled and sub flooring exposed. I noticed several joists between the gaps of sub flooring and I put several screws in line with the existing ones. The problem is still there. Please note since this is the second floor, so there is a finished ceiling beneath. All the solutions available on different forums talk about fixing the floor under an unfinished surface. Any help will be appreciated.

If your putting the screws in line with the nails, you may not be hitting the floor joists because the nails your following didn't hit the joists in the first place.

If your seeing the sub floor move, the builder missed the joists when nailing.

Try installing screws about 1" left or right of the existing nails you see in that peice of subfloor.
The nails from one floor joist to another are usually 16" apart.
So if your pulling back the carpet, get a tape measure and measure from a non-sqeeking area of the floor. Hold the tape on a row of nails and measure 16, 32, 48, etc. These will be your joist location. See how close the builders nails line up w/ the tape measure every 16".

I tried your solution but, extra screws didn't help at all and now the squeak has spread all over the room. Any suggestions.
