Does quality of prepaid cell phone make a difference on the coverage it will receive?

And can someone tell me of a good prepaid plan with good coverage. I do not use the phone much. I am currently using Trac Phone and I think the phone is very cheap. $19.99 Wal-Mart special.

Phone will be used mostly in The Fort Wayne Indiana area.

I had Verizon and paid a horrible monthly rate and had a phone that was not a flip phone.

About 3 years ago I switched to Virgin Mobil and have almost the same phone model I did with Verizon. I am very happy with Virgin Mobil. I have a plan where I pay once every 90 days and if I put it on a credit card I pay $15.. 99 which works out to about $5 a month. Minutes are 25 cents but if you talk more than 10 minutes in one day the cost drops down to 10 cents a min. Text is 5 cents. To show you how much I don't use my phone - I presently have over $100 available on my phone.

The trick with a prepaid phone is to get the phone you want with or without the bells and whistles. The carriers all basically use the same cell phone towers, so it really doesn't matter what carrier you use just so long as the areas you want to use the phone are covered.

I did notice that I can't use my phone down in Amish country as there aren't enough towers and my coverage doesn't run there (at least it didn't a year or so ago). I don't go down there anyway so it doesn't matter.

Just look at the coverage area of where you will be using the phone and see if that's a good area for you.

Virgin Mobil has specials on their phones almost constantly. You can get a really good tricked out phone for free if you catch the right promo - you just pay for $20 of air time and get phone free and free shipping via FedEx.
