I'm 16 years old and I like is 25. He likes me as well. I've been asking so many websites and nobody has gotten back to me. Is it illegal for us to date now? If its illegal now, what about when I'm 17 in 5 months? Will it be illegal when he's 26 and I'm 17? If you have any information that could help me, {e-mail removed}
Thank you very much.

It all depends on where you live. But a 25 year old man and a 16 year old girl is a little creepy. You are still in high school and he should have graduated college and be off on his career.

First, its not a good idea to post contact information publicly. Besides which we respond through this site, not directly. So your e-mail address was removed.

Second, there are no laws that cover an age gap in dating. But there are a number of laws that prevent minors from having sex with adults. Without knowing where you live (general area), we don't know what laws govern this situation.

While you may be over the age of consent, there may be additional factors that would make having sex with him illegal.

But legality aside, this is wrong on several levels. A 25 yr old has not business being romantically involved with a 16 (or 17) yr old. The two of you are at very different stages of your lives. He's starting a career you are just finishing high school. For him to think about you as a dating partner shows some very serious flaws in his character.

A gap of ages will matter less and less as you grow older. If you were 22 and him 31, it wouldn't be too big a deal. If you were 32 and him 41, it wouldn't matter at all. But you are still a minor and a 8-9 yr gap at your age represents a BIG problem.

Legal issues aside, a 25 year old dating a 16 year old sounds disturbing.

Why don't you just stay friends for a while and see where that leads? There's no reason to rush a relationship.
