My girlfriend's son got arrested over the weekend due to a suspended license which he said he did not know he had. He got pulled over for not using his turn signal. Anyway, I was not aware that there was a Law here in AZ that states if your vehicle gets impounded by the police, that it must remain there for 30 days. Is this true? If so does anyone know what the cost will be at the end of the 30 days?

Was not aware of that, normally you have to merely pay impound fees, who has told you that it has to be impounded for 30 days ?
Was this the impound yard or the police

It was the undercover police officer.

? Undercover police officer, am I missing something, undercover officers don't do traffic stops. Nor do they come out from undercover to tell you about impound laws
Impound for traffic is different than impound for drug charges
So call up the impound yard and ask them what you need to get your car.

The only time I can think that a vehicle is impounded where you could not pay the fine is if it was possibly used in the commission of a crime.
The person who holds the title to the car may have to be the one to reclaim it and if there was no insurance or if it was unregistered that might keep it hostage.
They are not going to let an unregistered or uninsured car leave their lot.
Or suspicion of a crime.
Call the impound place and ask them.

If an undercover Officer made the stop and was instrumental in seizing the auto I very much suspect you do not have the entire story here.
The only way to know is to go to Court with the person who was stopped and see what the charges are.
You appear to have no legal standing to obtain this information.

Thank you for all your answers, you all have been very helpful. After speaking to my girlfriends son, he tells me that the police were in uniform but were driving an unmarked police car, also this happened in Surprise where Sheriff Joe was doing his sweeps. The stop was legal, being arrested was do to driving with a suspended license which we thought we had already taken care of it, as we paid his past tickets and also took him to his classes he had to take. So we have no idea why it is still suspended. That is something we are going to look for. As far as the impound, the paper work he was given explains the new law that was put in place this year by Sheriff Joe.
Again thank you to all for your assistance.

Sheriff Joe DOESN'T MAKE law. He FOLLOWS it... At least, he's SUPPOSED to, but we know Sheriff Joe doesn't do that...
Please reprint the law for us to read.
In terms of your original statement, the cops are NOT allowed to keep your car for 30 days. It's YOUR car. It makes NO sense. Of course, Joe Arpio makes no sense.
