Hello, I have a one valve tub hot water / shower mixer. You pull it out to get water out of faucet and than lift a deverter thing (similar to a sink drain closer_ to get the water to come out of the shower. The faucet is dripping . I believe it is the rubber end of the stem inside the valve. I took it apart downt to where I can get a hold of the stem. It does not have a screwoff bonnet, the thing is a solid unit , the cold in the hot in the shower out the top. I pulled the pin (shaped like a staple, out of the top end of the part that the stem is in.
It has funny 3/8 moon shaped thin at top an bott that the pin held, to stop side movement. Problem how do I get the stem out?? I tried to pull it out with a vise grip , no go. Can you hselp me?? Neil

Sounds like you have a Moen faucet Your in luck. My company installed nothing but Moen valves in their new construction. First turn off the water to the tub, then pry off the metal plate directly on top of the handle. You will find a screw undeneath. Remove the handle and You will see a brass clip holding in the cartridge. Before you pull that clip, PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION AS TO HOW THE CARTRIDGE AND THE CLIP ARE POSITIONED IN THE VALVE BODY, yOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO INSTALL IT THE SAME WAY. Pull the clip and take the white nylon tool that came with the new cartridge and try to break the cartridge free. If you can turn the cartridge pull up on the stem to remove the cartridge. For those'hard to remove cartridges' Moen makes a cartridge puller,(see image) that can be purchased at your local plumbing supply house. Don't forget to coat the new cartridge with the silicon lube that came with the new cartridge. Never use grease or oil on neoprene "O" rings. Before you reinstall the cartridge turn the water on to flush out the supplies. Now just put everything back the opposite way you took it apart. Good luck, Tom
