My juvenile son got probation on Monday. Today is Friday and no one has gotten in touch with him or me yet. He wants to get started on community service. How long does it take for them to contact the first time. I called twice, am I just pissing her off. Will there be certain forms for comm service, or can she just start now without any forms?

The community service must be assigned by the probation department. Don't start anything as essentially any time put in won't count.

If you don't get a letter from them by next Wednesday indicating a day and time for your son to appear in their offices, call them and politely ask just when IS the appointment so you can ensure his attendance at this important first meeting.

They will decide normally what community service the child is to do, at least at our locations here. They may assign them to washing poice cars ( my favorite) or working at a fire house, or of course everyone's favorite, doing trash details at local parts or along roads.

Some will allow the person to find his own, such as reading to elderly at nursing homes and more.
Yes there are normally forms required.

It can take 3 or 4 weeks at times for court papers to be sent to the department, a case worker to be assigned and for them to set up a sechudle for them to be seen. Most PO departments are very over worked

Nahh... She ain't going to like your son no matter what you do. It's my experience, that the PO doesn't do the contacting. You do the contacting, and if the PO thinks you waited too long, they'll violate him...

If it were ME, I'd call EVERY DAY, and I would leave messages EVERY DAY! I would NEVER give them a chance to say that we weren't compliant.
