I have lost the only key to my Honda civic. The door was open but we cannot start the car.
The dealer wants $ 250.00 to come get my car and make me a new key. I know I'm dumb but is there a better way? :(
Thank You, James

A couple of problems:
One is a key blank: 2001 2002 Honda CIVIC Key !! New Transponder Chip Key:eBay Motors (item 370131322742 end time Nov-10-09 16:52:23 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-2002-Honda-CIVIC-Key-New-Transponder-Chip-Key_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ40016QQihZ024QQitem Z370131322742QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)
That's the easy one. I THINK for my Toyota, the key was about $15-25 cut and about $75 for programming, but I can do he programming on the vehicle and you need the key that opens all doors to program any.
Honda, not sure:
If you have the number that was on the ring when the car was new, then locksmiths could possibly make the key.
Obtaining the info to cut the key may be the most problematic. Owner has to be verified and then the key code looked up from the dealer's database. Not sure if locksmith's have this information.
Now you need someone with Honda OBD specific programming information. This requires access to the vehicle.
You have exlore the dealer option, now explore the automobile locksmith option.
In any event, you will have to prove ownership.

Honda often gives you a small metal bar, with a four-digit key code stamped on it, in case you lose your keys. It's often taped on the back page of the Owner's Manual.
