I have a couple of bird feeders that have been up a little less than a year. Now there is a Cooper's Hawk hanging around my front and back yards to munch on the little birds and it has even killed a squirrel. I know that it is illegal to harass the hawk, but is there a way to deter it from my yards? :(

I hung a inflated plastic owl from a tree to scare off redtail hawks - the sparrows and other birds didn't really pay much attention to it but the hawks stayed away.

- don't know if this works on all hawks.

Had to spread the rep Judy but great idea.

We are about to put lawn seed down in our front yard, we have already done it once but the darn sparrows have eaten it all!
I found out that plastic hawks (funnily enough) deter the sparrows.
I'm just going to go the cheap route and cut one out of plastic as well as adding some shiny cd's on string hung between the trees ;)
