I have a furnace, which is about 5 years old, that I am having a problem with. This furnace has a fresh air vent wired directly into it that always turns on first when the heat is turned on, then about 20-30 seconds later the furnace fires up and all is well. :) Last night I tried to use it for the first time this season. Come to find out the reset button is blinking, but when I press the button to reset the furnace, it goes out for 5-10 seconds and then starts blinking again. The first couple times this happened the vent turned on for about 10 seconds and then shutoff. Now the light stays blinking and vent doesn't come on at all.
Now, I seem to remember something similar happening a few years ago and was told by the technician that it was caused by a sticking butterfly in the vent box. Butterfly wouldn't open when vent came on, so some safety setup kills the vent motor and prevents the furnace from coming on. Does this make sense to anyone ? I was going to look at the vent tonight and try and see if that was the issue.
