I am trying to wire a new Hunter 27183 dual sliding switch in my housem to control a fan an light unit. I am wiring the switch with a 14-2 wire coming in with power and a 14-3 wire going out to the fan and light.
The switch has four wires coming from the back - Black, Blue, Red and Green. According to the wiring diagram, the Black wire on the switch is connected to the hot power, the Blue wire goes to the fan, the Red wire goes to the light and the Green wire goes to the ground.
I have connected the switch as follows: Black (hot) from the 14-2 is connected to the Black on the switch, the Blue is connected to the Black from the 14-3 (to go to the fan), the Red is connected to the Red from the 14-3 (to go to the light), the Green is connected to the ground. I also connected the White from the 14-2 to the White on the 14-3.
That all made sense to me until I tested the connections. When both of the sliders on the switch (fan and light) were set in the off position, I tested the light wire (Red on the 14-3) and had no power and when I slid the light switch on, I got power to the light wire (Red). That works as I expected. The problem I am having is that I seem to have constant power to the fan wire (Blue on the 14-3) regardless of whether the fan slide is on or off.
Is the normal? I tried two switches and both operated the same way. Any guidance would be greatly appreciate.
