After washing is finished our clothes have afunny smell even after adding a softener to the wash

It probably comes from your washing machine. Perhaps a rinse with bleach through a couple of times will sanitize it. Washing machines as they age, become clogged up with any number of bad germs and need this extra boost every now and then. Also, you can't let your cloths sit damp in the dryer for more then overnight (they will pick up scents).

I use only cold water wash detergent now, with a once a week hot wash.
