My 6 month old male kitten has suddenly changed his behaviour. He has no energy is hardly grooming and constantly keeps hiding. I have booked to have him spayed this week but just wondered if this behaviour is typical of male cats when they reach puberty! Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

No. At six months old they should still have plenty of energy. I would suggest having the vet check him out thoroughly. It could be something as simple as worms or a bacterial infection.

Hello Jo
As tany suggests, getting your ktten checked for any type of infection is always the best way forward
However, cats do respond to smells, have you introduced a new animal scent in the home recently, or taken something away
Some species of cat, particularly siamese find it very difficult to be comfortable and highly stressed
In England, you can get a plug in diffuser by feliway, which sends out pheromones to help calm them down and make them feel comfortable
To be fair, until I saw it working, turning one of our cats from a timid nervous wreck into a bundle of raging energy :) I didn't believe it, but now - recommend it to everyone
